It's here. After more than a year of development, dozens of design revisions, hundreds of hours of internal playtesting, and more late nights than any of us care to admit — Starforge MMO alpha is live. You can play it right now, in your browser, for free.
This post covers everything: what's in the alpha build today, a quick overview of the four factions, how to claim your invite, our Discord, and what's on the roadmap next.
What's in the Alpha
The alpha is a real, playable MMO — not a tech demo, not a preview build. It has the full core loop: claim your starting sector, build your base, mine resources, trade on the galactic market, and project military power across the galaxy map.
Here's what's fully functional right now:
The Galaxy Map. Five hundred star systems rendered in a live 3D map powered by Three.js. Your fleet positions update in real time. Territory is contested and shifts as players expand. You can see every active engagement on the map as it happens.
Base Building and Resource Economy. Metal Extractors, Crystal Harvesters, Energy Relays, Research Labs, Shipyards — the full production chain is live. Resources tick every few minutes, buildings upgrade through five tiers, and the galactic market lets you buy and sell everything. Current alpha prices are already showing interesting player-driven dynamics: Crystal is trading at a premium because everyone builds Metal first.
Fleet Combat. Build your fleets from six ship classes — scouts, frigates, destroyers, carriers, dreadnoughts, and the rare Titan-class. Fleet battles resolve server-side and are anti-cheat by design. Combat is genuinely tactical: formation, range, and faction abilities all matter.
The Alliance System. Form or join alliances of up to 50 commanders. Coordinate fleet movements, declare war on rival alliances, and claim contested sectors together. The social layer is what turns a good strategy game into a memorable one.
Player Profiles and Leaderboards. Track your combat record, resource production totals, market volume, and sector count. The leaderboard resets with each season, giving every player a fresh shot at the top.
One honest note: this is alpha. There will be balance issues. There will probably be a bug or two you find before we do. That's exactly why we need you in here — your feedback shapes what ships in beta.
Factions Overview
You choose your faction once, at account creation. Your faction determines your unique bonuses, special buildings, and endgame technology. Choose carefully — or don't, and switch before alpha ends (we'll allow one reset while we're in early access).
Terran Dominion — The balanced faction. Strong economy, flexible military doctrine, and the best early-game infrastructure bonuses. Recommended for new players. Unique ability: Overcharge, which temporarily boosts your energy grid's output for a production surge.
Void Syndicate — The stealth faction. Void fleets can activate a cloaking field, making them undetectable on the galaxy map until they engage. The highest skill ceiling in the game. Unique ability: Phase Cloak — your fleets disappear from enemy scanners for 15 minutes.
Solar Empire — The military powerhouse. Solar commanders get bonus damage on all fleet engagements and access to the exclusive Titan-class shipyard earlier than any other faction. If you want to fight, fly Imperial. Unique ability: Solar Lance — a directed beam weapon that bypasses 30% of enemy shields.
Nebula Collective — The economic faction. Nebula resource production is 25% more efficient than any other faction, and their traders get preferential market fees. The faction that wins long games by out-producing everyone else. Unique ability: Nebula Cloud — deploy a resource-rich anomaly that doubles extraction for 30 minutes.
How to Join
Alpha access is invite-gated right now to keep server load manageable while we finish scaling infrastructure. Here's how to get in:
1. Join our Discord (link below) — we're dropping invite codes in the #alpha-access channel every day. First-come, first-served.
2. Sign up for the newsletter at starforgemmo.com — we're sending invite batches to the list every 48 hours.
3. Share and tag us — every player who brings in a referred friend via their referral link unlocks an additional invite to hand out.

There's no paywall, no premium early-access tier, no pay-to-win. Alpha is free. We want the best players, not the ones with the biggest wallets.
What's Coming Next
Alpha is the beginning, not the ceiling. Here's what we're building toward for closed beta and beyond:
The Leviathan Raid — a co-op 10-commander encounter against a rogue AI faction that emerges from deep space. Requires coordinated fleet positioning and real-time communication. Nothing in the current game prepares you for it, but the players who figure it out first will have a serious story to tell.
Season Two Battle Pass — cosmetic progression track with ship skins, galaxy map themes, commander portraits, and title badges. Entirely cosmetic. Nothing pay-to-win will ever appear on the battle pass.
Mobile Layout — the galaxy map is currently optimised for desktop. A responsive mobile layout for tablet and phone is in active development and will land in a mid-alpha patch.
Expanded Ship Classes — three new ship types are in balance testing. We'll release details when they're ready to not break the meta before players have settled in.
Alliance Wars — structured war declarations with win conditions, truce mechanics, and post-war territory redistribution. The current alliance system is good. Alliance Wars makes it great.
This is one of those games you'll regret not joining early. The people who find it in alpha become the pilots everyone else knows by reputation six months from now.
The galaxy is open. Come build your empire.
