Community Rules

Operated by Starforge Interactive Ltd. — Last updated

Starforge MMO is a living universe shared by thousands of players. These rules exist to keep that universe fun, fair, and welcoming for everyone. They apply in all game channels, the official Discord, and any forum or community space run by Starforge MMO.

1. The Golden Rule

Treat other players the way you want to be treated. Competition is part of the game — hostility is not. You can fight someone's fleet and still be respectful about it.

Everything else in these rules flows from this principle. When in doubt, ask yourself whether your words or actions would make the game less enjoyable for another real person. If the answer is yes, don't do it.

2. Prohibited Behaviour

The following are strictly prohibited across all Starforge MMO spaces:

  • Harassment & bullying: Targeting, intimidating, or repeatedly provoking a player in a way intended to distress them.
  • Hate speech: Content that discriminates against or dehumanises people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Threats: Any statement that could reasonably be interpreted as a threat of real-world violence or harm.
  • Sexual content: Explicit or suggestive sexual content directed at any player, especially minors.
  • Impersonation: Pretending to be a Starforge staff member, moderator, or another player.
  • Doxxing: Sharing or threatening to share another person's private real-world information without consent.
  • Spam & flooding: Repeatedly sending the same or similar messages to disrupt communication channels.
  • Cheating & exploiting: Using bots, macros, third-party tools, or game bugs to gain an advantage. See Terms of Service §4.
  • Real-money trading (RMT): Buying, selling, or advertising in-game accounts, currency, or items for real money.

3. In-Game PvP Rules

Starforge MMO is a PvP strategy game and conflict is an intended part of the experience. However, the following conduct rules apply even in combat situations:

  • Farm accounts: Repeatedly attacking the same low-power player with no strategic purpose in order to grief them is considered harassment and is prohibited.
  • Spawn camping: Attacking players who have been active for fewer than 72 hours (unless they attack first) is not permitted.
  • Exploit-free combat: Using game engine bugs, client exploits, or timing glitches to win battles is cheating regardless of PvP context.
  • Alliance warfare: Alliance-vs-alliance warfare is fully permitted. Diplomatic agreements between alliances are player-driven and are not enforced by staff.

Defending yourself, retaliating proportionately, and aggressive competitive play are all legitimate and encouraged.

4. Chat Rules

The following additional rules apply in all text channels (in-game chat, alliance chat, global, and trade):

  • Keep discussions in the appropriate channel (e.g., trade offers in Trade, not Global).
  • English is the primary language in Global chat. Alliance chat may use any language.
  • No advertising of external games, products, or services.
  • Excessive use of capital letters, symbols, or emoji to draw attention to messages is considered spam.
  • Political and religious discussions are permitted only if kept respectful. Moderators may close heated threads at their discretion.

5. Consequences

Violations are handled progressively depending on severity and history. Staff may skip steps for serious offences.

Warning

A formal written warning sent to your account. Warnings are logged and will influence future enforcement decisions. Most first-time minor violations result in a warning.

Temporary Suspension

Account access restricted for a defined period (typically 24 hours to 30 days depending on severity). Applies to repeated minor violations or first-time serious violations.

Permanent Ban

Immediate and irrevocable removal from the Service. Applied for extreme violations (hate speech, threats, doxxing, cheating at scale, or repeated serious offences). All associated accounts are banned simultaneously.

6. How to Report a Violation

If you witness a rule violation, please report it using one of the following methods:

  • In-game report button: Right-click any player name or message and select “Report.” Include a brief description and the report will be reviewed by our moderation team.
  • Email: support@starforgemmo.com — attach screenshots where possible.
  • Discord: Use the #report-a-player channel on our official Discord server.

Reports are confidential. We do not disclose the identity of reporters to the reported player. Submitting false or malicious reports is itself a violation of these rules.

7. Appeals Process

If you believe your account action was issued in error, you have the right to appeal.

  1. Submit your appeal within 14 days of the action being taken.
  2. Email appeals@starforgemmo.com with the subject line “Account Appeal — [your username]”.
  3. Explain clearly why you believe the action was incorrect and include any supporting evidence.
  4. A senior moderator (not involved in the original decision) will review your appeal within 7 days and communicate their decision by email.
  5. The outcome of the senior review is final for in-game moderation matters. Permanent bans may be appealed once only.

We appreciate honest, respectful appeals. Appeals that contain abusive language toward staff will be dismissed without review.
