The Crimson Reach Hegemony is the only NPC empire that actively contests living factions for territory. Born from a militarised colonial authority that never stood down after winning its independence war, the Hegemony treats every neighbouring system as a future province awaiting administration. Its doctrine is not raiding but annexation — methodical, bureaucratic, and relentless. A Hegemony front does not loot a sector; it surveys it, names it, and posts a garrison.
The Hegemony advances along a measured annexation front, claiming one weakly-defended frontier system at a time and fortifying it before pressing further. Alliances that share a border with the Reach face a slow, grinding pressure rather than dramatic invasions — a pressure that rewards coordinated defence and punishes complacency. Unlike the Void Collective, the Hegemony can be reasoned with: it accepts ceasefire payments, border concessions, and formal vassalage arrangements, each recorded in the Reach's infamous administrative ledgers.
Commanders who defeat Hegemony incursions earn war medals that carry standing across all living factions, and those who negotiate a lasting border treaty unlock a stable trade frontier — one of the few reliable sources of mass-produced military components outside faction supply chains. The Hegemony respects strength and contracts in equal measure; it despises only indecision.
