The Stellar Church of the Flame holds that the first stars were not accidents of physics but deliberate acts of a universal intelligence — and that solar energy, in its purest form, is a direct channel to that intelligence. Their theology is complex, their internal politics Byzantine, and their fleet doctrine devastatingly effective because every Solar Empire commander who joins the Church receives combat doctrine refined over two centuries of defending shrine-systems against raiders.

The Church is not expansionist in the military sense. They expand through conversion — establishing shrine beacons in neighbouring sectors that passively radiate a navigational-aid signal, making them diplomatically inconvenient to remove. Factions that tolerate shrine beacons in their territory receive modest but real Solar Empire reputation bonuses as the Church records their tolerance in the Ledger of Allies.

For Solar Empire-aligned commanders, the Church offers the most exclusive cosmetic rewards available without direct combat: hull paints, engine exhaust colours, and ship-name glyphs that broadcast faction identity across the entire sector map. These cosmetics have no gameplay effect but carry significant social prestige — alliance commanders who sport Church markings are typically assumed to be veteran Solar pilots.
