TFS Interceptor
Faction: terran federation
Overview
The TFS Interceptor is the Federation's dedicated air-superiority fighter, designed to deny enemy scout craft and light fighters access to Federation-controlled space. Faster than the Wasp Scout and far better armed, it carries a dual kinetic burst cannon rated to engage targets up to three times its own mass, and its afterburner system allows it to run down virtually any evading target in open space. Federation carrier commanders deploy the Interceptor in rotating CAP — combat air patrol — patterns to maintain a bubble of air superiority around their capital ships against which enemy fighter operations become prohibitively costly.

Lore
The Federation does not build interceptors to be elegant. They build them to be everywhere at once and to make the enemy wish they had not sent fighters. It is an unromantic philosophy, and it works extremely well.
Tactics
- 1
Deploy TFS Interceptors in rotating CAP patterns with 90-second intervals — staggered rotations ensure there is never a gap in air superiority coverage around your capital ships, even when individual Interceptors must disengage to recharge.
- 2
Use the afterburner system aggressively when running down evading targets; the Interceptor is one of few ships fast enough (speed 82) to close the gap on a fleeing scout before it reaches sensor range of friendly space.
- 3
In carrier defence operations, assign dedicated Interceptor wings to each carrier in the fleet — losing even one carrier is catastrophically expensive, and an Interceptor wing costs a fraction of what it protects.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
- +Speed of 82 places it among the fastest ships in the Federation roster, making it genuinely capable of running down any enemy fighter or scout in open space.
- +Dual Kinetic Burst Cannon provides concentrated burst fire effective against light fighters and scout-class hulls regardless of armour configuration.
- +Fast build time of 1,800 seconds allows rapid replacement of combat losses and quick deployment of fresh wings between engagements.
Weaknesses
- −Hull of 340 and shields of 280 make it fragile even compared to other Tier 2 fighters — it survives by not being hit, not by absorbing punishment.
- −Primarily anti-fighter and anti-scout focused; against corvettes or larger vessels, the Interceptor's burst cannons lack the damage output to be effective.
- −Single-pilot crew means extended CAP operations create significant pilot fatigue with no rotation option — without carrier resupply, Interceptors on long patrols become progressively less combat-effective.
Recommended Modules
- kinetic burst cannon upgrade
- afterburner capacitor
- intercept missile rack
